Rapport
You know you’ve developed a rapport with the people you deal with every day when you can:
- Have lunch without actually having any money on you
- Have tea with only a 100 LE note sitting in your pocket
- Get a shave with only 3 LE on you (costs 5 LE normally)
- Say, “I have no change. Tomorrow, ok?” and get an unhesitating “Ok, inshallah,” in return.
If there is one way to re-affirm your faith in the local people, this is it. The people around my office are so genuinely trusting that “bukra, inshallah” is never a problem. This generosity results in my having no qualms about going back to these people every single day.

Your list makes it look like tea costs at least 20 times as much as a shave. I think there must be a little more to this. Could you elaborate please?
Sorry...paying for a 50 piastre (10 cents) cup of tea with a 100 LE note is ludicrous because tea people don't often have that much change.
ooohhh. I get it now!
Makes my morning Tim's or Starbucks sound a little overpriced! ....
Yay! You're accepted. What a wonderful feeling.
Cheers!
