How do you convince someone who wasn't born yesterday that an Australian of Sri Lankan descent is in some way related to a Canadian of decidedly Caucasian descent?

Through marriage.
Use the term "twice removed". Add an estranged Aunt or adopted cousin, and you're good to go.
It works in Saskatchewan.

whatever man the locals will still assume that you're shagging her....
well, if you were trying to convince me, it'd be so easy. i really thought that they took gullible out of the dictionnary.
