Living Arrangements

Meet Megan. No, not the Calgary Megan.

She'll be my new roommate in Cairo. All I know about her is that she's from Wisconsin.

If I apply the stereotypes, she's probably a farmer that likes cheese and is an avid Green Bay Packers' fan. I do have a feeling she's not going to fit that mold.

Dear Kent,

Despite my current employment as a Editor for a sports Web site, I'm useless at sports. I don't know the rules to football, your hatred of the packers is safe with me.

Let me take a moment to address any Wisconsin stereotypes you might hold:

Stereotype:

1. Wisconsin Loves Cheese
Re: I can eat a pound of cheese in one sitting

2. Wisconsin Loves Beer
Re:Beer and I are actually engaged to be married next Spring.

3: Wisconsin has a roller coaster amusement park that Patrick Duffy brought all of the Step by Step kids to
Re: Sadly, Port Washington, the setting for Step by Step, lacks roller coasters. Patrick Duffy lies.

4: In Wisconsin everyone lives on Farms
Re: Also a sad fallacy. I personally live smack in the middle of a retirement community. Old people condos to my right, nursing home across the street.
For a while, there was a "Ambulance Tally" on the fridge.

5: In Wisconsin Everyone Hunts
re: Well, the rules are different for Milwaukee and Northern Wisconsin. Northern wisconsin, they hunt AND ice fish. In Milwaukee they call their hunts "drive-bys" and deer "teenage smackheads."

Hope this helps the people of Canada understand their nearby neighbor Wisconsin better.

Thanks for that. I'll deal with any Canadian stereotypes once I get there.

I was in Wisconsin once. Took the bridge from Deluth into whatever town is on the other side and then turned around and went back to Thunder Bay, Ontario. Does that count?
